Project Description

The Deep Woods Band will reimagine the folk music of the Ozarks through the lens of modern jazz guitar and electronics. The ensemble will create and release an album of music carefully chosen through interviews with experts and archival research. The goal of the project is to blend modern jazz sensibilities with deep historical music and translate heritage songs to a new audience.

Artist Bio

Jacob (Jake) Hertzog is an award-winning guitarist, composer, songwriter, and educator at the University of Arkansas. He has released nine albums ranging across jazz, rock, and contemporary classical and performed across North America, Europe, Latin America and India. Jake is the author of Guitar Sound Effects on Hal Leonard and the creator of the “Hey Jazz Guy” series for Guitar Player Magazine. He is a grand prize winner of the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition and holds music degrees from the Berklee College of Music and The Manhattan School of Music. Hertzog’s newest project combines guitar with live ambisonic diffusion.
